Prayer - Richard Baxter

Let the eternal God be the portion of my soul;
let heaven by my inheritance and hope;
let Christ be my Head, and my promise of security;
let faith be my wisdom,
and love my very heart and will,
and patient persevering obedience be my life;
and then I can spare the wisdom of the world,
because I can spare the trifles that it seeks,
and all that they are like to get by it.

Dave Brainerd on Trusting God's Wisdom

"I felt myself exceeding calm, and quite resigned to God, respecting my future employment when and where He pleased: my faith lifted me above the world, and removed all those mountains, that I could not look over of late..I now found sweetly revived in my mind the wonderful discovery of infinite wisdom in all the dispensations of God towards, me, which I had a little before I met with my great trial at college: every thing appeared full of the wisdom of God."

- Dave Brainerd, as quoted in The Works of Jonathan Edwards, vol. 2 (Carlisle, Pa: Banner of Truth, 1995), p. 321 in Dave Harvey, Rescuing Ambition. Wheaton, Ill: Crossway, 2010, p.150

Joy to the World

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Surreal Moments

I received my copy of the Reader's Digest today and noticed on the cover that one of the stories was called 'Abandon ship!' I immediately (and correctly) guessed it was about the ship my brother was on. It was bound to happen...one of the first things that came to mind after the shinking of the ship was that the story would probably appear in Reader's Digest..and it did!

A Bloggable Moment

I observed a motorist stop on a busy street on a recent cold morning to run into Tim Hortons to get a coffee. Ironically, he had left his window open!
